We don’t need to take a slide from statistics and numbers. Every Nepali already knows what this flood has done. We all feel the pain deeply. Every morning, the first thing I do is check social media to see if there is any new update. Even at work, my mind keeps going back to Nepal. It’s hard to focus when your heart is somewhere else.

It is heartbreaking to see people crying for their loved ones, calling names into the mud and hoping someone will answer, families sitting on the remains of their home- homes they built with years of hard work , children standing alone because their parents are missing, and mothers holding onto whatever little they can find because everything else is gone. I cannot even imagine the pain of the people who have suffered, the fear they must have felt when the water came rushing in, the shock of losing everything in a matter of minutes, the heartbreak of searching for loved ones who are missing. We see photos and videos from far away, but what they are living through is something no screen can ever capture; their loss is deeper than anything we can measure, their grief heavier than anything we can put into words. The strength it takes to stand in the middle of destruction, to hold onto hope when everything around you is broken, is something I cannot imagine. All I know is that their courage, their tears, and their pain deserve our respect, our support, and our kindness.

Even if I was in Nepal right now, I know I couldn’t stop this disaster. No one can fight water. No one can stop a flood with their hands. All we can do is stay together and support our people in any way we can.

In moments like this, it’s sad to see anyone taking advantage of the situation. When people are already hurting, we need more kindness, not less. This is a time to be kind, to support each other, and to think about the people who have lost everything. Families are in pain, and even a small act of kindness can make a big difference. We should be lifting each other up, not adding to the suffering.

However, even in this dark time, there is hope. People are helping each other. Volunteers are working day and night. Neighbours are sharing food, clothes, and shelter. Strangers are comforting strangers. The government is also helping with rescue, support, and relief. Everyone is doing what they can.

And one truth cannot be ignored: Nepal is suffering from climate change even though we do not emit much. We don’t have big industries. We don’t burn massive fossil fuels. We don’t release large amounts of carbon. We work hard, we depend on nature, and we live close to it. Yet we are the ones facing floods, landslides, and disasters again and again. The people who contribute the least are suffering the most.

Wherever we live, at the end - we are one. We are Nepali. We care for our land. We care for our people. Nepal does not emit more, yet we are paying the highest price. But even in this pain, we must not lose our humanity. Let’s stay together. Let’s support each other. Let’s be kind. Let’s be human.

Nepal will rise again because we stand together.
